Recently picked up an HP desktop, 6320 series:

AMD Phenom II x4 2.8ghz
8gb DDR3 RAM
1tb HD
Integrated NVIDIA Geoforce 9100 graphics
Built in wireless LAN 802.11b/g/n
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

plus an HP 2009m 20" widescreen LCD for $800 bucks (bankrupt-CA sales tax raped me). I was impressed with this computer out of the box, VERY quiet, booted up much faster than the equivalent Intel Quad-core workhorse I used at my previous employer, and it wasn't full of all the lame start up apps that they used to package on the systems.

I had a re-gifted Sapphire Radeon 3850 512mb DDR3 sitting around, picked up a Rosewill 530w, 33a @ 12v power supply for 45 bucks shipped, spent about 10 minutes popping them in, and I have a $850 computer setup that kicks my old work comp right in the nads.

The most recent game I have is Doom 3, so I'm not really looking for extreme gaming capabilities. It is handling 2 hour plus audio and video podcast editing easily and without a twitch.

I'm partial to HP (as a shareholder) and because I've had good luck with the brand, I still own every HP I've ever bought and they still run. I turned my old 2005 desktop into an HTPC type setup for the living room.

I do admit that The Cleaner's setup makes mine look like a eunuch, however.

Cleaner  - I did a cut and paste below. I usually get machines that are way more advanced than I need as I rotate them between 4 locations with my oldest one now being 6 years old. It just came in yesterday so I am hoping to be able to hook it up tonight.
Alka - Thx again for the help.

I really like the GTX480's scalability, but they're just too hard to come by in pairs.

Who built the system?

actually cyberpowerpc.com   and unfortunately it came assembled wrong and it failed at start-up. After many hours of them trying to talk me through fixing it, I was told to ship it back to them.  They only warranty parts not labor so there is no in home fixing. Thing weighs 65 pounds.
