I enjoyed my time at ACME though. I came here after dirtywhore banned me from the Last Stronghold then everyone else seemed to migrate too when dw started banning everyone. We were much better off at ACME.

anticheat was the death of a lot of servers and players, not necessarily because they were cheating, but because of the perception that they're difficult to set up.

Then again, cheating caused a lot of players to move on as well.

When Noobdoor went down for good everyone migrated and in came the ACME server (correct me if I'm wrong here, but I think this server was after Netdoor). DW setup a PU server (with PW) so that there could be PU's. I remember after tooo many people got admin of LS, people would get banned left and right. I remember the only reason I wasn't banned was cuz I was friends with Rushy, who was friends with DW.

At the time everyone felt that LS was "The Server" and everyone who went to ACME were the sissy players who couldn't keep up (it was also the overflow while waiting to get in to LS, I remember running 2 q2 clients, 1 tring to get in to LS and me playing on ACME)

It's funny looking back @ SS's at all the people I have forgot (Aoshi and his near perfect rail....GD Him....)

"Noobdoor" was awesome.  Asymetrical maps help balance stacks at times.  Not to mention they are just fun.   Some of the dm and single player maps turned ctf were quite fun to play(not the ones we have on our server, except fact3)  Also maps like the l0ck maps and warscene etc. So fun.  It had way more of a variety than our rotation here .

+Applaud! punkbuster was lame, im fairly confident in my computer skills, at least for regular setup and games, and other things, but when it came to punkbuster in Counter-strike, and q3, i hated it, you are right it was awful..  Surprisingly though, even when i alias, i havent really been called for cheating lately, except by badpee who is also 100% convinced i wallhack, i actually think i have it on demo too haha, good times. But back in the day, it was the worst, especially around the time when people like Vapid, zeb0r, and devious(ra2/tourney player) played, they were all butt buddies, and i still talk to vapid on occasion, but when they played, sometimes made me look like a lydia or something haha. Anti-cheat was very simple, at least for me, and I think it was a good idea obviously because people shouldnt have anything to hide so they should be willing to install it and prove it.

lol DW is such an idiot, he was and probably still is 100% convinced that my brother and i have always cheated haha. Because when ever he played (with his 7 ping) he would badpee it, and by badpee it i mean he would jump EVERY time he fired, making it SUPER easy to hit every rail on him. Needless to say we got banned like 60 times from that server, guess he didnt know how to blackhole haha.

Stoogeville was a great server back in the day.. but springfield on the other hand.... why would anyone EVER want to play at springfiled, i distinctively remember, the MAX players was set at like 32... and yes it DID get to 16 on 16 at some times... who wants to play 16 v 16 on lush, i me lets be serious, i couldnt even cap that....

Snake runs Backshooters servers. He was gracious enough to handle server level problems for me when I wasn't around for awhile. He had rcon access only and never played on the servers himself. If he kicked or banned you from console, I'm sure there was more than a good reason for it.

S! was one of the best admins we've had here, too bad real life takes his time now and he isn't available for the servers. He was very firm and impartial. Again, if he kicked or banned you in game, there was plenty of reason for it.

LoL...agreed; I'm happy with my record though. I only remember two occasions where I felt I'd done wrong.  One was very early on where I banned the wrong person for being unreasonably abusive to others and informed Worm who reversed the ban.  The other was to YF where I level banned him, but it was during his heyday of being a pain.  I grew to like him.

I'm not sure who you're mixing me up with though Cake, but I'm not responsible for banning you. As I said, I preferred mute. I've also not played since mid 2005.....time flies!!!!!

I was feeling nostalgic this afternoon and thought I would google my old server. I owned and operated it at Xnet's facility for several years. I miss it sometime Nice to see that people still remember it and remember it well. Was anyone on there the last day when I jacked up the max players to 64? I think it almost got there but wasn't stable. It was crazy.

I do miss being able to log in at 3a.m. and easily get into an 8 on 8 game, regardless of the map.  Q2-24/7!  These days it seems like players intentionally pick shit maps, put up a mapvote for mintro so no one else can pass anything, then go spec and kill the server.  That shit should be a level-ban, since it's rare to have an adequate number of people on the server at all just to ruin it by forcing everyone to spec, log out, or play Border's Canyon or some other equally poorly regarded map.  Nearly all of the maps can be fun, or at least salvaged, when people actually join a team and play them, but the constantly sitting out until caco, lush, or clones comes up has pretty much put the nail in the coffin for Q2.

I agree. Of all Q2 maps, this one with its' choke points and long exits from the flagrooms required escorts to cap. With a max of 5 on 5 it was one of my favorites.

Hey there Bones!  The kids are doing well, thank you sir.  My 2 year old daughter is raising cain, and getting into everything.  Living terrible 2 all over again is a SOB.  My son is almost 5, and maybe ready to join the Quake 2 community.  Not sure if he will play since he hasn't played in a while, but we'll see.  Mother-in-law is currently out of the country, so my wife has gone to working the graveyard shift while I watch them at night.  My stepson will be graduating high school with aspirations to become a math teacher just so he can coach high school football.  He'll be attempting his first long distance drive without my wife and I this Spring Break. Scary shit.  So life has been pretty good, but challenging.  How about you?

I talked to DW many times and he seemed like a decent guy....regardless of the actions on his server. But I can understand the frustration, there has been many a time I've wanted to say "fck it, why am I wasting my time and taking this abuse?!?!?!" when dealing with player issues.

TBH, same goes for organizing a competition as well. (acmectf summer cup 2009 anyone?).
