Anyone seen these electronic cigarettes?    http://www.smokingeverywhere.com/

I quit smoking for good about 3 months ago, but there are 2 times when I NEED a cigarette.

1)  After about 4 beers at the bar--- drinking & smoking go together like hops & KT.  It kind of ruins my night when all my concentration goes to finding a reason to not smoke as opposed to focusing my attention on earning another free beer thanks to my NTN trivia (another addiction of mine, other than Q2).

2)  A long gaming session.  Sometimes I'm craving so bad I'm tempted to go buy cigarettes.

These electronic cigarettes vaporize a liquid and deliver a shot of nicotine without the tar & chemical side effects.  I think I'm going to order one and see if it helps or not while I'm at the bar.  If I have to break down, I'd rather break down without having to actually smoke.

Since "quitting" cold turkey in June, I've smoked only about 5 cigarettes.  I'd like for that to be 0, even if I have to cheat to get there.

Considering the environment I work in, I think I've been overwhelmingly successful at quitting smoking.  Long hours in my office and/or long hours on the casino floor with all those smokers lighting up makes for a good excuse to pick it back up.  I'd rather not relapse.

I was a 2 plus pack a day smoker. Quit cold turkey at 27 and never went back.
I just said to myself: I am not trying to quit, I HAVE quit. I enjoyed it and instead of cigs quitting me I quit them. I started walking with weights, then began jogging and jogged for 20+ years. Knees now have me on a bike but I am as happy as can be.
Hang in there it is just a time thing. I suggest you not play with your past but just move on and be happy you did. Congratulations!

You've been off since June? No longer physically craving the nicotine, what you're missing is the whole ritual of lighting up and the mental association of alcohol and stress (and q2) to the nicotine rush. If this smoking everywhere thing floats your boat in that regard...

However, ask if you want to see yourself six months, a year, five years down the road still using it. If the answer is no, well, I can't say how this other source of nicotine helps you from where you are now.

Also, if you're averaging 2 cigs a month I can't say that the health benefits from using an atomizer rather than a normal cigarette will make any difference at all, unless you're going to live to 1,000 or something.

P.S. How many packs a week on average did you smoke before you stopped?

10-15 packs a week....

My point is if I NEED the nicotine, one cigarette will do for a whole night, so instead of smoking a cigarette with these nasty chemicals, why not just get the nicotine without them?

Sorry if I was unclear, but I was trying to say that in a comparison of smoking 2 cigarettes a month versus using the vaporizer twice, the overall health benefits of the vaporizer are negligible, if any.

I'm a 1 pack a week guy who's stopped whenever it was convenient (usually for girlfriends, long trips, etc.), so it would be wrong of me to even try to understand what kind of cravings you're experiencing. I did, however, take a class in nicotine addiction in college though - and actually paid attention, unlike a lot of my other gen ed classes.

The only advice I can offer has already been said - if you're committed to kicking nicotine for good (i.e. not using the vaporizer in the future), don't get it, and do your best to restrain your cravings. As yowza said, your wacky overactive dopamine receptors will get over nicotine in time.

Find something healthy to chew on when you get a craving (oral association is a very large component of the mental addiction - try carrot sticks, for instance), or exercise, or have sex (oral association is a... heh heh). Pretty soon you might be tenting your pants and drooling instead of craving a cig when you get home from work or finish playing Q2.

Good luck with this, buddy.

P.S. I had to attend an NA (nicotine, not narcotics) meeting as part of my class. If you believe in a higher power (or even if you don't), give it a shot. At the very least you'll have nice, helpful people there who know what you're going through.

...I'd rather not relapse.

Well, did you ever go for the ecig, quit, or start back?

I got an ecig last week. I'm now on day 6 of not having a real cig and this is the longest I have gone in 23 years of smoking (since i was 11).
Unlike the gum, patch, lozenge, and of course cold turkey.. I don't even have a craving for one.
good times.

I bought a couple of them.  I haven't really used them much and still haven't smoked.

Alka - I started smoking when I was 14 and quit for good when I was 26. There is nothing sadder than seeing an old smoker. Quit, brag to everyone that you have and don't look back. You either quit them or they quit you in the worst way later.  angel
