An Appeal to the Competitive Masses

I think the attitudes regarding the Summer Cup need some serious revaluation. Several people have put a large amount of effort into organizing the cup and I think we need to take a step back and think about the hard work that went into pulling together this fun event.
Regarding Attitudes
: I considered posting this in the "General" section of the forum because it applies to the game as a whole, but frankly we should start small and work from there. We all know everyone has their bad days. I've spent many a game irritated by the stupidity and poor sportsmanship that we all witness on the server on a daily basis. Some people seem to have the modus operandi of talking trash and ruining everyone else's good time. There will always be players like that and the only thing you can do is ignore them.
That being said, let's "get serious" for a second: this game is nearly
12 years old
. A lot of energy has been put into organizing a friendly competition for us. I can't understand why the egos are so rampant. I thought the objective was to have FUN. A lot of us have been playing this game together for a long time. It's time to let the petty bullshit go and just have a good time. Everyone can't always win. Several players in the cup are some of the best players left in the game. Can't an example of good sportsmanship be set for the others who strive to reach that skill level one day?
Regarding Teams
: It's impossible to have perfectly even games 100% of the time. We're all aware of this. It's unreasonable and absurd to expect every match to be perfectly balanced. alka did his best to make the teams even. The skills were distributed with no bias whatsoever. No one was slighted on purpose. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. That's how competition works. I can't understand why people get so upset about losing in a game this old. Again: aren't we here to have fun?
I could go on, but given the apparent epidemic of ADHD running rampant in the community I'll bring this to a close. If you decided to skip to the end of this novel, I hope you'll take these main points away with you:
Make sure you think about all the hard work alka has put into this cup to make it fun for us. For YOU. Considering the amount of time he took out of his personal life to make this possible he deserves some serious thanks. (And don't forget to thank WORM for running the servers and YOWZA for fronting the bling.
)
Let's not forget that this game is nearly 12 years old. I think it's about time we started to have fun with it and stopped worrying so much about our precious egos. Let's try not to kill what's left of the game we all love.
So thanks for all of your hard work, alka. Many of us really appreciate it. Thanks WORM and YOWZA for making CTF possible for us all. And last but not least...R.I.P. Patrick Swayze.

aren't we here to have fun?
I can honestly say that for the overwhelming majority of the player base here, the answer is no. I think the bottom-feeders of the community (not naming names but I'm sure we all know who they are) have made it so otherwise reasonable people are sick of putting up with all the bullshit and just come on the server with their murder faces on ready to bitch out any and all comers. I know I do.
But I'm not participating in the Cup and my comments are meant more as a general "state of affairs" on ACME, so feel free to
kiss my ass if you disagree
take them with a grain of salt.

I played on State, County and City softball teams where I learned pretty quick what was important - to have fun. To witness other teammates berating each other was painful and disturbing. Here were people with busy/stressful lives out to have some fun and to have a fellow teammate putting them down was just miserable.
Life is too short - have fun, be kind to others and let those that you love know it.

I think most of the jabbing is all in fun, and we realize that.
However, there are some who care about nothing more than winning and whining. These are the turds that need to grow up.

I'm gunna be honest here, when I join the server, I do it for one reason, and that's my enjoyment. If I didn't find playing fun, I wouldn't do it. The only thing I try to avoid is having my fun at another expense.
To me I find it amusing when I join a server, be told by player "x" that I am bad, and then on the next map be called a stacker. I've never understood some people's need to always have to have something to say. That's (one of) the reason I could never get along with Rick. Everytime he killed me I was "owned" and everytime I killed him it was "luck" "lag" "spam". Whatever. Your dead. Respawn -> grab gun -> continue playing.
As far as the cup goes, any player, or team, that performs at their best, and still loses, should be happy that we played well. If someone can't make it either decide to play 4's or postpone. What gets my goat is the stupid little arguements when noone can make that decision. I don't like sitting on the server (and vent) for 30mins-1hour while people discuss what they should do.

Wake, you have been guilty of this many times yourself, so don't try and sit back and let the feathers fall on you. Live by your own motto don't just preach it....and on a side note.....target got owned by simmeth.

To give you an example, the other night we had a match scheduled vs h0ps' team, but h0ps had a 120-150 ping. So he was on the phone with his ISP and people were talking about 4v4 or waiting till he was done.... When I made comment about postponing the match everyone was getting on my case on where I needed to go and shit. You know what? h0ps is their capt, as far as I'm concerned if he can't play, reschedule for another day (which is what was agreed apon 45 mins later).
As far as whining goes, I don't think I've done any except at my own team members. We have a good team, but just need to learn how to comunicate and work better together.
