I never knew about esdf and wasd until about a year 1/2 to two years ago.

I previously used:

mouse1 = forward
mouse2 = back
z = step left
x = step right
ctrl = fire
c = grapple
mouse3 = use railgun

It really sucked learning esdf, which is what I used til the end, because you play terrible trying to remember how to move.

I did a lot of standing still on caco just railing because I couldn't figure out how to move and for that matter chase.

Once you learn esdf or wasd, there is no going back. It works too well to use anything else.

Yeah, I used the arrow keys for years. I finally made the switch to WASD and it was a pain in the ass to get used to, but probably nowhere near as annoying as switching from your old setup. I'm still too lazy to switch again to ESDF but I'm convinced it's probably the best to use.

Wow, I could not even imagine trying to use that setup..

I use WASD and various other keys around the "WASD" area for my guns, grapple, drop tech, etc.

This is my setup, but it's not for the faint of heart.. or anyone else tbh.

arrow keys for movement (left, right, and down (back))
uparrow = chaingun
mouse2 = forward
mouse1 = attack
mouse3 = rocket launcher
mwheelup = railgun
mwheeldown = super shotgun
z = grapple

that's basically it.. other keys spread all around the keyboard also.
if you are ever chasing me and see me stop for a cpl seconds at a time it's cause i'm looking down at my keyboard trying to find a key.  grin

The config I ended using was:

esdf = movement
mouse1 = fire
mouse2 = jump
mouse3 = railgun
mouse4 = rocket launcher
mouse5 = chaingun
mwheelup = super shotgun
mwheeldown = grenade launcher
q = drop tech
tab = chaseme
(yes, many times have I dropped my tech when trying to use chaseme, nothing is more annoying than that; why I put those beside each other is beyond me)
w = drop ps
h = drop cells
p = use ps
c = grapple
ctrl = fps 60
space = fps 120
, = fps 33

wow, some of you guys have really fucked up configs.  it's a wonder you can even play like that.

ok for real this time (even though i do use my car keys for movement)

wasd = movement
spacebar = jump/moveup
ALT = crouch/movedown
q = railgun
e = rocket launcher
r = hyperblaster (hardly ever use it)
f = hand grenades (hardly used either)
c = doing my best MadMax impression :p
CTRL = toggle zoom (which was a bitch to use and thus was rarely touched)
SHIFT = drop tech
tab = toggle power shield
mouse1 = fire
mouse2 = use grapple
mwheelup = chaingun
mwheeldown = super shotgun

wasd   = movment
q        = Railgun
e        = Rocket Launcher
r        = drop tech
g        = mm2 "<<<ACK>>>"
h        = mm2 "<<<NEG>>>"
c        = grapple
z        = chaseme
x        = score
v        = mm2 "On %l D w/ %t"
b        = mm2 "enemy FC %l"
n        = mm2 "On O %l w/ %t"
t        = mm1
y        = mm2
p        = Use Powershield
f1       = drop powershield; drop cells; drop cells; drop cells; drop cells; drop cells; drop cells;
Space = Crouch
left Shift = Vent Chat PTT
Mouse1  = shoot
Mouse2  = Jump
I used to use a mouse 3 (thumb) +fov40 sens 4.5 -fov100 sens 9.5, but i havent used that in years.
i realized mouse wheel is too slow for anything when i tried binding up on it to chaingun. went back to the standard 5 key.

I dont know why i dont use f for anything, i dont have nades bound to anything and i dont have walk bound to anything.

Mouse 1= attack
mwheel= grapple
crtl=crouch
