Scary thought right?

The other day I was thinking about how long I have played this game. Not sure the exact date, but I'm pretty sure I installed q2 on my PC (with built in vid card) in the spring of 1998. Started playing DM on mplayer(.com) and they moved to the Zone (MSN Gaming Zone). I never "left" the zone and started playing with the rest of the ctf comunity till late 2001 - early 2002, and I "met" most the q2ctf players at that time. Got to know most players then via mIRC (When I wasn't banned) and then got to know some better when ventrillo servers became more popular (for the first while I could only talk ingame, due to having no mic).

Other than a few lifetime friends, and family, I think I have know most my e-friends longer than friends IRL. Actually since 02 I have moved about 10-15 times, most times from one province to another (last major move being from Moncton, New Brunswick to Grande Prairie, Alberta). People like h0ps, jewboy and Legend I have known for the better part of 6 years. I left q2 for about a year and a half, and as soon as I hoped on vent, I knew (almost) everyone who was talking.

The reason I posted this in the LAN Party-line was because I wish we Had a q2ctf lan party. As much I fight with other q2 players, and them with each other, I still think it would be great to meet up. Each year that goes by, there are less and less of us playing.

Man, I was just reading the "top 25 players" thread, and I remembered this hilarious time on vent.....

People (not me, didn't have a mic) on vent were poking fun of religion just to get a rize out of Recon (or was it R3con?) and he ends up handing his mic to his mom, who came on vent, and had a 20 min conversation with crow about religion. I don't think I have EVER laughed so hard on vent as I did that day. The whole time crow only said about 5 words, and was very polite. Was good times

Honorable mention: When crow's (dad?) was yelling in the background for crow to "get off that fucking computer and do the fucking dishes". YF was on vent and brought that up for awhile untill crow was no longer around. I bet he wished he was recording

If there ever was a lan party nearby, i'd probably show up, if nothing else but to see the pasty white faces of those who used to talk so much smack.

We almost did one time. We had 6 Q2 players here with people offering to make the drive. Now, none of us play.

Cool side note: 1 guy that used to play with us is now a TE on the Kansas City Chiefs. However, he broke his neck last season and I'm not sure what his recovery is like.

I have thought about this a few times over the past few years. I would have it, but I'm in very northern Canada (Grande Prairie Alberta still) so I doubt anyone could come. Cleaner was going to setup where ever he lives, Legend said the same thing. Now that I am older (27) and have money in my account now, I am all the more interested.

Well, I could supply the room if need-be.  I'll even make you feel right at home and head to Tunica!  The only ACME non-family member that ever came over to my house was DK.  I'm waiting for my daughter to turn 3 or at least close to that age before I can see myself coming back to Quake 2.  That and I'll need another machine.
