I just thought it should be brought to your attention that there is a player who goes by the name of Jonathan who serves little purpose on the last resort ctf server other than to intentionally ruin everyone's enjoyment of the game. He did it yesterday on Edge, and he did it a week or so ago on Counterparts.
On Counterparts, he joined the team that was not only winning, but also had an extra player, giving the already winning team 2 extra players. This was purely intentional.
He did it again yesterday on Edge, joining the already winning team, and giving them the extra player. Again, this was purely intentional.
When confronted about this, his attitude is very much that he doesn't care about the game. It seems his only intent is to troll and turn decent games into capouts by joining the winning team, even if it means giving them 1 or 2 extra players. He's not new to the game, and is very well aware of what he's doing.
AlphaDog and ted can cofirm what happened yesterday on Edge, which was around 6PM or so EDT by my best guess. There were others playing as well, I don't recall who. I told them to use their voice on the forums, but I don't see any other threads posted yet. Please rid this kid from the server. The few of us that still play q2ctf enjoy the game, and this kid has decided that everyone else's enjoyment is something he'd rather not let get in his way of ruining the fun. He's a detriment to the game, and knows this.
Please put a much needed size 14 boot up his ass so the rest of us can continue to enjoy the fun.
Thanks.

What up CV :> I play on again/off again. I was the guy on Slippery who's head you were standing on during the rocket arena intermission, and was ssging/railing you up in the air like a week ago or so. My ISP's connectivity has improved somewhat, so for now the game is more playable and it's fun again after not playing for a few months. It's weird seeing all these new people, or maybe it's the same old crowd just aliased (who is ch!co I wonder? He's awesome). Do you still play as Clearly Vague? I play as sine nomine, so if you see me, holla!

My fault. I won't hesitate to do this next time. I'm all for following the steps you guys have in place for reporting these things, and know for next time. Thanks for the reply.

See? This is part of the problem; it is very hard for anyone to keep up with who is who with all the aliases. How do you expect anyone to know if they should join red or blue to try and keep skills even when you don't know who is playing?
And the A-hole using name jonathan aliases as much as anyone else...and bitches while screwing up games as much or more than others too.
The stacking, accusations of stacking, bitching about stacking, obnoxious smack talk and generally annoying behaviour has reached a new high so it looks like we need to be more forceful with the idiots that are the continual problem children.
I don't know about you but I would much rather have a fun game where teams are balanced and lose than win with a stacked team. The game is supposed to be fun for everyone, please remember that.
Like alka said, come in IRC and grab one of us..there is
usually
an admin around. I'm mostly there daytimes only but others are around too.

i think most of the regulars can tell by playstyle. there are certain players that regardless of name, i can identify from a mile away. a few of them i can ID from a mile away with my eyes closed. =P
That being said, what are the chances of enabling /whois again? Just for maybe a few days to a week to see if it works now.

You may be able to recognize some of the regular players but I dare say the majority cannot...and many of the ones that think they can are wrong most of the time.
As far as enabling whois....it is flawed and has caused problems before. I feel it is better to keep it disabled rather than give erroneous info.
We keep a database of names linked to IP/ISP/connection time-date so if there is any question about an alias it can be tracked rather easily.

Is it an automated process? How does that work?

All connections to the servers are logged, it is a simple matter of parsing the logs for entry into database and we have a custom program that does that. I dl logs and run program on a semi-regular basis.

Is there a way to force names on people? New players would have to post/join IRC to play on Server? If so that might help. /shrug

All I can say is record a demo of the P.O.S. acting up and email it to an admin or go the IRC route. Demo is the best way. No excuses there.

There are many security vulnerabilities in older versions of A2Admins. One problem was the use of whois command to crash servers. The older regulars here can attest to that.
We disabled the use of whois command as soon as we discovered that exploit and R1CH patched Q2Admin to fix many security issues.
Whois is not failsafe, it can, and has on many occasion, given erroneous information. I feel that giving no info is better than giving wrong info.
The only usable part of Q2Admin for our servers is the name protection and some logging features, otherwise I would not run it at all.
