Tried quake live the other day... its pretty fun but just doesn't compare to the good old Q2CTF days. Not sure why iD ever got rid of the grapple in the first place... i guess it took too much skill to use.

def. missed some names. just one that should be up there is 99vc|Electro. all this mention of es and what not, while Electro pretty much dominated the entire es lineup of Vynn, slee, dragoon despite having a hpb on his team and 2 guys on a gay isdn line. It was also a widely circulated demo at the time... i gotta find it.

also yeah, merton was good, i remember him on bzkr, made thema tough clan with punisher. Good memories in here, lotta fun times back in the day playing q2ctf... also not sure why there are so many SpB on the list... the only thing good about that clan was their colorado server which was a pretty good mutual server.

This list has no credibility because Shatter is on it. You must obviously be an idiot who started playing after Quake 2 went out of style. I could think of a thousand better players on defense, I'll give you 1 to knock him off the list, Merton.

Nice job calling me an idiot btw, in no way this was meant to hurt anyone's ego at all. I went by some of the things i saw. Shatter was a very good player, it seems someone has a grudge against him. So calling me an idiot is nullified. Sure there were probally better players that I am missing but call me an idiot is uncalled for. I hope you catch carbs while getting into a car crash while finding out your significant other is cheating on you with a relative. Plus I hope you get evicted from your section 8 home, and have to sleep in a card board box underneath a highway over pass. Thank You for your reply....chow

I think the truth of the matter lies in the fact that I wasn't around back then. Therefore, all clans and biases must be put aside. 

That list that legend made was 50% accurate, anyone else figure out what was wrong with it!? 

Quite honestly, a lot of the "average" players still in this game would give quite a few of these blokes a run for their money then vs. now--- which is why it's so hard for people to make a comeback.  I remember almighty on the match server about a year ago.  It was, I think, a 3v3 and almighty was getting his ass handed to him being rusty as hell and all.  Paulwall was talking mad shit and almighty left.  Legend and I both made the comment that almighty would have bitch slapped paulwall all over the server if he'd continued playing on a semi-regular basis.   It's taken me a couple weeks (now that my connection is stable again) to get back up to speed, and I haven't been gone for 4, 5, or 6 years.  Imagine how these guys feel when a newb seems like a pro.

I miss squeaky,  rd-mo, truth, sanity, crow, and even nimrod (when he wasn't botting).

Hands down best all around q2ctf player from america ever es-Dragoon.  es-vynn was not far behind him being that Vynn was from the state of Washington on an ISDN line with 100-180 pings most of the time in matches.  The last few months of q2ctf before he started playing q3 he got dsl and was a beast.

BISH, many of these guys were easties, so they don't really appreciate the players that Drag and vynn were.  I would also put in 2 cents for Elektra (99vc).  I also want to echo re: Words as a great offensive player.  Alot of people only thought of him as a grapple monkey, but he actually developed into a good fighter as well.  Daylightstar was a great player when she was active and you know who else was monstrously good for their ping?  Witchblade (she pinged over 300).  Don't know if you remember her, but she was honorary, if not official, es in the early days, I think the only HPB es.

And since this is a SMACK forum, re: es involved in ownage.....I remember we handed it to you guys (es) on rtctf1a on OGL ladder (like 7-0 or 8-0) when we had  a decent team to play for once without crazy packet loss or lag. 

Words, me, Kaluminati, Soul (from Ultraviolence DM clan), and Pathogen (also DM player) vs. Drag, Slee, you, spec, and rhys

I actually went to an es LAN at Jame/Nimrod's house a bunch of years ago that was one of the two most fun LANs I've been too.  Drag, Slee, Nimrod, Jame, 23, eva01, Recoil, styx, me, Biffy, L-fre, Jez, and 101.  Fun, fun games.  More comical was the destruction that happened when we stacked on pubs.
