Thanks to the sponsorship of yowza we have added a new dedicated server, ACMEgamers.com. IP is 74.86.166.162 so ping it and do a tracert to see how it treats you.

This is a dual core, dual cpu Xeon box with 4GB RAM, 250GB HDD, 100mbps port box located in Dallas, TX that we will use for Enemy Territory:Quake Wars and whatever new games come out we want to try. We now have the horsepower to run multiple new games and plans are to give TF2 a run on it also.

Quake Wars server is running now, I don't know how it runs because my pre-ordered copy is not here yet.    Somebody check it out and let me know.

Dallas is the best deal we could get that would be central for everyone so West coast is not left out.

It's not a matter of comprehension, but an issue of geography.

There's no such thing as an active West-US CTF server.  It doesn't exist.  Of all the CTF servers, I ping best to tastyspleen (~60ms vs ~90ms at acme), but no one plays on tastyspleen.  Meanwhile I have to suffer through firing at people before they even come around a corner and still getting railed before my shot even fired because they had 20 ping.  It's increasingly frustrating, and right now CTF is barely worth playing because of it.  There's no such thing as a better connection where I live unless I sell a limb for T1.  I have DSL... cable is worthless in my city (has been known to go out for DAYS at a time).  I'm getting sick of being insta-railed by East Coasters.

Here's what worm and I debated.
 * If we moved the q2 servers to Dallas we would lose some players in the process with the new ip#
* The euros would not ping anywhere near as well.
* The box might not run all the games, or anything for that matter, well. We need to see. Whereas the current setup is real good for q2ctf.
* If we started a q2ctf server there it would split up what community we have.
  I hear ya westcoaster. When we first started a q2 server up we were in Chicago but the service was unreliable and we did not have control of the whole box - just our ports. So we looked for another and ended up on the east coast. I wish we had gone more central at that time but we didn't and we are hesitant to move because of the above.

I would definitely jump on more often.  Problem now is that I have little time for gaming.  The gaming gods thought it would be funny to torture me with a low ping when I have no time to play.  DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!!!!

Actually, I think it would be a great idea.  IMHO, L3 gets tons of DOS attacks especially from that one node in Washington D.C.  It often disrupts game play.  Secondly, the server used to house Last Resort is somewhat flaky.  I remember when the server would consistently PJ for all of us, 10 seconds at a time.  I think moving the server to Dallas would make Last Resort a lot more stable with less downtime.  JMHO.

true story =P

here's an idea:

since the old Pub II is now lasermine, redirect from acmectf to acmegamers when the main pub is full.  alternately, people can choose to connect to the central box if they so choose.  This would be good for when players don't want to wait for a bad map to finish or just want a smaller game.
