CANADA >3 USA

A strong oil price and the faltering U.S. economy have enabled the Canadian dollar to surpass the greenback in value for the first time in nearly 31 years.
The Canadian dollar rose as high as US$1.0001 just before 11 a.m. on Thursday -- something that hasn't happened since Nov. 25, 1976. Canadian dollar's surge in recent days follows a decision by the U.S. Federal Reserve to slash a key interest rate in a bid to calm mounting concerns over the depth of a crisis in the U.S. mortgage market. Meanwhile, prices for commodities such as oil, gold and base metals -- items found in healthy abundance in Canada -- remain near record levels. The Canadian dollar has risen US5¢ this month alone, a move that caps a surge of more than 60% since the loonie hit a rock bottom value of less than US62 cents in early 2002.

The world economy needs the American economy more than it needs the Canadian economy. We're still more powerful.

exactly why are you happy the canadian dollar is stronger than the american?
Is this so that when you come to america you get more money for your dollar and you can afford a better hotel?
Or are you simply happy that now canadian merchendise will cost more in the USA making your products less competetive here? Did you know that having a weak currency is strong for the economy by making that countries products more competetive (i.e. cheaper) in forigen markets?
If you're just happy that you can get more US$ for your CA$ now, then be happy. If, on the other hand, you think this matters for some other reason then I'd love to know what it is because i could use a good chuckle.

spoken like a true moron... let me guess you're American.
If you know anything about economics and investing, and the sub-prime lending market that completely crashed and how the housing market for the lower class citizens of America will not be able to get loans because of lack of equity and assets, they will look to Canada for equity loans, and since our interests rates will increase due to the Canadian dollar increasing (which sucks) the money that will be made from your market crash will in the end benefit our economy and GDP will continue to grow at an excellent rate including our natural resources (our oil which is our biggest commodity) bringing it up to about 3.5-4.5% in growth a year, should the markets hover around like this for a while.
next time you open your mouth, know what you're talking about before you make yourself look like a dumbass again.

Canada? Oh, that's right, our attic to the north. Isn't that the place that the retreating French settled and whose dollar value export of Pot exceeds that of timber?
It's cute how they peek out from under our protective umbrella and nip at our heals now and then.
This IS the smack section, right?

Lost the war? :<
-The war was fought from 1812 to 1815 and involved both land and naval engagements. Britain was at war with France and, to impede American trade with France, imposed a series of restrictions that the U.S. contested as illegal under international law. The Americans declared war on Britain on June 18, 1812 for a combination of reasons: outrage at the impressment (seizure) of thousands of American sailors into the British navy, frustration at British restraints on neutral trade, and anger at British military support for American Indians defending their tribal lands from encroaching American settlers.
-The Americans destroyed the power of the native people of the Northwest and Southeast, thus securing a major war goal. The trade restrictions and impressment by the British had ended, removing another root cause of the war. Both nations eventually agreed to a peace that left the prewar boundaries intact.
-The war had the effects of both uniting Canadians and also uniting Americans far more closely than either population had been prior to the war. Canadians remember the war as a victory by avoiding conquest, while Americans celebrated victory in a "second war for independence" personified in the hero of New Orleans, Andrew Jackson.
Why does it seem like Canadians are always trying to prove they're better?
