Yeh I was on vent at the time, and I couldn't do shit. It seemed that after I spawned it would take like a second for me to move, and my grapple was like an extra 30ms off. I had less PL when I had 300 ping. Either way, I uninstalled like 2 mins after I left server.

I don't get it, why un-install?  Q2 doesn't take that much drive space, around 10 gigs for us old schoolers, "you would not believe the mods and maps to the mods that I have in that Q2 folder". 

Just delete all your short cuts.  Sorry, but my Q2 directory is from 1997, and I plan to keep it for a long time to come.  Although I do make a backup of it from time to time to be sure.

well i dont do well with my intel pos card that averages about 60fps and my computer that takes 2 minutes just to open the q2 application...

Well, back in the old days, when electricity was first discovered, we had little Pentium 1's running at a mere 233 mhz and some were lucky to have a Voodoo 1, you know the 4 meg "add-on" cards with the passthru cable?  Maybe 64 megs of ram and possibly lucky enough to have a real sound blaster sound card, any kind would have done, but the AWE 32's were the best at the time.

The mighty 15" flat screen monitor and windows 95a, few were lucky enough to have 95b back then and 95a had that fscking 2 gig per partition limit too!  Those systems were doing good to get past 25 fps at 640 x 480 with most of the eye candy turned off.  That is when people first realized that the lower frame rates would allow these little tricks of getting thru windows and such.

But, that was back in the stone age too.     


ADDED  "Don't forget the 33.6 modems with the average 225 or higher pings.  The 56k's were just starting to come out and were priced rather high back then, around $200+ for a good US Robotics 56k.  Try playing with major packet loss with that high of a ping and a damn ISP that drops you every other 10 minutes, that will drive anyone crazy. 

And forget playing on a full server of 24 or more, the systems and connections back then just couldn't handle the traffic.  This was the major reason why lanparties were so popular back in those days and even then pings were still in the 20's and 30's.  Broadband has more or less put the lanparties on the "not needed" list for a good quality game."

I remember seeing this great player on the pub server, and when he joined the match server, I decided to pick that person on my team. I said some things then that I later took back and apologized for, and we later became pretty good friends (imo) but it still bothers me. And for that reason I am very sorry KT...

You didn't make fun of my map, we were discussing a section of it based on movement speed with ramp sliding - your recollection of our 1v1 was wrong as well.  Never had a problem with any ctf players, I'd just go to the match server every now and then, most were cool...a few were just fun to piss off (delta, MartyR, PaulWall, freak) etc..

You right, I didn't make fun of you map, there was a small lip at the top of one of the ramps, and I found that I kept getting stuck on it unless I jumped. Somehow the conversation got turned around to you asking me to 1v1 you DM. I'm not going to try to kid anyone by trying to say I'm as good a player as you, but I also don't ever remember saying that I was.

I guess the main difference between us is that I like to play the game to have fun. I don't expect my amusement to come at the cost of others. Of the 4 players you listed, they would all have it coming (except maybe Marty, he was an alright guy, just like to whine).

Either way, I wrote that in Sept. of 07 & I wasn't really sure why we didn't get along. While I was still playing I do know that I had both you & h0ps muted because I found you were both draining any fun out of the game for me. Now that I have taken a year and a half off, it's fun to come back and play.

PS Tru story though, on my 2nd or 3rd game back, and after having a pretty bad pug game (I think I was third on my team) playing against h0ps, we won, and at the end I said "GG". He came back & said something along the lines of "I would have owned you Targe+ if I wasn't lagging so bad" and then posted a screenshot of his lag on the forums. I don't remember ever saying he wasn't lagging, or that he wouldn't have "owned" me if he wasn't.

Worth your time? Depends on your priorities....only you can determine that.

People still playing? Yes and no. Some you know are still playing, others have moved on...but there's a new crop of players coming in now....more Euros, Eastern Euros and such.  Server isn't as busy as it used to be but still get anywhere from 8 to 18 players or so at night.

I remember reading something R1ch had posted on his site/forums that went over alot of different commands & what they meant. I C+P alot of the stuff from there into my config and set most the values by his recommendations. However I am thinking those were designed for r1chgl and it seems I am using opengl32? I am half tempted to delete all the stuff I posted (and anything else I don't know what is) and start from scratch. Wonder what would happen....

Just like I told you in IRC the other day.....use r1q2 for client and r1gl for graphics, use cvars I posted in your r1gl.cfg.

There is a search function for the forum...use it...you'll find your question is answered many times over....even from 3 years ago when you had the very same question. Hint: search for "r1gl"
