Anticheat badfile limit

Effective today we will implement a limit on the number of bad file checks allowed on the server to five. After a period of time this number will be decreased until we reach zero.
Enough time has passed that everyone should have their files cleaned up now soooooo...bad files allowed is now 0. Zero. None. Naught. Zilch. Nada. Niets. Acun. Nul. Anymore than that and you wil be kicked.
If you have been kicked from the server due to this limit you can either clean out the bad files or submit them to me for validation. If they are found to be okay we will add them to allowed file checks.

Addendum: you probably should fix any bad files ASAP as anticheat only checks files as they are loaded. You could join the server with 4 bad files and be in the middle of a game when someone using the crakhor model joins, and your crakhor .md2 fails the file check and boom, you are kicked mid-game.

Yet again my mouth has spewed garbage that my brain has yet to process.
I should have visited the forum to find out what’s going on with all this
Anticheat stuff and file checks before issuing a rather bold and misinformed
statement.
As I learned from the forum, all this “added stuff” to the server actually
helps most players (myself included) by leveling the playing field.
If I had known the server operator was actually handpicking files I never would
have said that, as I thought it was very-slow-to-respond software finally
“kicking in” and removing the questionable client after a whole map had
been played.
Sorry Worm, Yowza, or whoever was @ the console at that time.
Please have mercy on the dumb guy.
BTW I wrote this before reading the added post (above) from R1CH, further displaying my ignorance...

Yea, it is amazing what you learn in here. The rumours, misinformation and out-right lies you hear in the server all fall away with a little bit of time spent keeping up with things in the forum....granted there is a lot of crap to step through in some sections.

Let's say your male model, female model, and cyborg model and the sounds for them are all ok. However, your crakhor model has some sounds with it that are wrong. Dunny why or how, maybe it's some pak file from a weird czech q2 files webserver or whatever, doesn't matter. Let's also assume that nobody on ACME ever uses the crakhor skin.
Now, day in day out, you have 0 bad files, because, anticheat only tests the files that the game loads. If people only use male/female/cyborg model, the crakhor never gets loaded, thus never gets checked. Now the czech guy happens to join the server and... he uses the crakhor model!
Now, for the first time, your game loads your crakhor model from disk, to display the new player in the game. It gets checked... and whoa... 3 failed sound files! But.. they are not new bad files, they were always there, just never needed by the game.
Now granted, this is a bit hypothetical. And since you only use default files (if i remember correctly) it does not apply to you. Probably only to those with 44 failed checks, who removed a number of files, seem clean for a while, and suddenly .. KICKED! They didn't remove enough
(or didn't send to us for approval enough..)
I'm reading this again and wonder if i clarified or just confused more

Why? Seems like there are 3 choices:
1) Submit the bad files you have to us for validation and if they are good there will be no problem.
2) Delete bad files/paks and use accepted ones as we have posted elsewhere and no problem.
3) Refuse to do either 1 or 2 and we can only assume you are using cheat files so we do have a problem with that.
Your choice.

Join the server and type acinfo in console, this shows what files are found to fail file checks.
If you are getting kicked because of failures you should see what failed on your screen. Type "condump fails" in console and a text file will be written to your ctf\condumps directory, look at it in notepad to see file check failures.
With a lot of failures it may take a few times to find them all, files only load as they are needed in game.

Let me add this....you more than likely have a pak added in either Quake2\baseq2 or Quake2\ctf that has the offending files. You can move them one at a time to a temporary folder, starting at the highest numbered pak and work backwards, to get back legal. Note that R1Q2 also loads alphabetical and alpha-numeric paks also so any like that could be the offender.
Once you find the problem, e-mail it to me and we can see if we're able to add it to validated list.

It will still show what files it is finding at the time of the kick.
I see you play as SAULEnS, you had something like 25 bad files yesterday so removing paks is the answer for you.

If you're using 3.20 this shouldn't even concern you...
If you're using R1Q2 and have a failed file, you can use the
whereis
command to locate which pak or directory it is in, eg
whereis players/male/tris.md2

You can't change all the paks. There is one specifically used for the flag, health, armor shard entities, and also textures, and other pics that runs whenever you log on to the server. Pak0.pak is what it is for me, but it may be different for you, although unlikely since that particular pak file is derived from the installation of the ctf mod. The best thing to do is to slowly remove one pak file at a time without compromising the main pak file (the one which holds the entities for the flag, health, etc). Or you could remove all your pak files, and then try to reinstall the ctf mod on top again.

That statement doesn't make sense. If for whatever reason you feel the urge to post a "retort" please do so in the appropriate section and lets keep this thread open for bad file checks.
I must say that there has been a number of cheats stopped so far and we will continue. Of all the cheaters there has been only one that admitted it and that was kimarou, bless his little botting heart.
All the rest deny and lie so who is to say the "I-never-cheat"s are legitimate? Sad to say but that's the way it is.

Ok i used the consul comand to find out what pak is suspect, it came back with ctf pak.8. well I don't have a ctf pak.8 could it be pulling from some place else. I am kinda lame at this stuff but I do have q2 and a couple of other games on there own HD so I can track down stuff easly. any ideas?

Fors, you didn't indicate you had a file problem in that first post so it read like you had gone to the dark side and joined the few bitchers.
Anywho...do what alka suggested. And I have found that pakscape works better than other programs, you might try it.
Let me know what you need.
edited to add:
I got your file and can't open it either, even after trying to fix the file. If it was attached correctly to the e-mail then it probably is best to delete it as I can't even check it.

As some have noticed we took off the bad file limit when we went ac required to give an opportunity for the new ac users to get right with bad file checks. We will again start implementing a limit and reducing it to zero over a short period so take a look at your files and either replace failed files or send them to me for validation.

Submitting a request to allow Q2 gamma colormap file. I am submitting two screenies for your viewing pleasure to see the difference. If you look at my rankings, I suck; not trying to cheat my way to victory or anything. I love Q2 and prefer more "eye candy" to performance. I can submit my colormap.pcx if you can give me an email address to send it to.
Oh, yeah. Is there anyway to get Q2Max to work with your server? The particles and shaders are stunning. It keeps the Q2 badass-ness (since it is the best of the four IMO) while ratcheting the graphics into Q3 territory.

You must have a modified pak file with invalid sounds in it. Here is how to find where it is:
Start Q2 but do not try to join server.
Bring down the console, ~ key, and type: whereis sound/player/watr_in.wav
You should see something like this: sound/player/watr_in.wav is found in pakfile ./baseq2/pak0.pak as sound/player/watr_in.wav, 19758 bytes.
Note that is the default watr_in.wav file in the default location, you pobably have it in some other pak file or you have replaced the original. If it is in another pak file rename that pak with a different extension, i.e., badpak.pak~ so it will not load.
Remember that R1Q2 loads any file with the extension .pak so just renaming without changing extension will not keep it from loading.
If you have replaced the original you need to make a fresh install.

its seems like it might be a good idea to have a tool that finds all 'invalid's' and prompts with option to rename/del the files
...and gives reason for invalidity
but of course i suggest that someone else do this since im lacking in coding ability and time
OR
ppl could just learn a thing or too while fixing their own prob's (though askin the same questions repetivitely)

ok ive been given the message bad file which i fixed now another 1 appeared which i also deleted but the same error came up when i did a whereis search it says the file is not found im still not able to join the ctf server any clues out there :-Dthe file is sound/players/land1.wav

That shows me that you have deleted the file. You can NOT just delete files and then join, there must be a valid sound file present.

it's a q2 default file - anything in ./baseq2/pak0.pak should be. i don't think i even want to imagine how you have a q2 with no pak0.pak.

so just renaming it should me sufficient then
so all i have to do is dload another pak file and then rename the offensive file is that what your saying

No. You must have the default sound. You can not delete it. You can not rename another file to the same name. The purpose of file checks is to detect files that have been changed in any way from the original or approved substitute files.
You need to replace your pak0.pak in baseq2 with the original one as obviously you have a modified pak.

I have a problem. Im running R1Q2 with the attached anticheat, and when I connect to the "Last Resort" server I am greeted with an error stating that I was disonnected for having a bad players\male w_grapple model. I dont have this model in \playersm so I would assume(judging by prior posts) that it is located in a .pak file. How would I go about correcting this?

[2007-10-24 20:49] ANTICHEAT FILE VIOLATION: M C o Z[xx.xxx.xxx.xxx:30005] has a modified players/male/w_grapple.md2 [0000000000000000000000000000000000000000]
That shows that you do not have the grapple model, therfore you are kicked. And probably would get kicked for other missing models in CTF.
Have you played CTF before? As a minimum, download and install the 1.50 CTF patch to get all the files needed:

I installed your version of CTF over mine, and I was met with the same error, but I solved the problem by installing Quake 2, CTF and R1CH's Anti-Cheat to another directory. I can now connect and play. Thanks for your help.
