Installing and using R1Q2 Anticheat

Use the web-setup tool that's now available from http://antiche.at to install the necessary files. Select all options. (You should at LEAST have r1q2.exe and anticheat.dll, ref_r1gl.dll is recommended, as is r1q2updater.exe. The other stuff can be helpful if you encounter problems.) To use R1Q2, simply execute r1q2.exe instead of quake2.exe.

If you can't connect, despite having all the necessary files, try running the R1Q2updater (R1Q2/Check for Updates in the Start Menu) to make sure you actually have the newest versions.

R1ch has created a tool to automatically create a config file for r1q2, with explanations of what each individual option means. Simply add the result to your current config, or place them in quake2\baseq2\autoexec.cfg or your mod directory.

In the server you can use the command aclist to show who is currently validated as anticheat user. Use acinfo to see which file is a problem, if the number in aclist is not zero. With acinfo playername you will see what checks another player failed.

Now take a detour to http://www.r1ch.net/forum/index.php?topic=105.0
It is the client README file, and it will answer a lot of questions.

Back? Good. Some more possibly useful info:

Suggested settings:

Basic R1Q2 settings:
// cl_maxfps has nothing to do with screen refresh anymore, just network
// r_maxfps is for the screen now, probably no need to change its value
set cl_maxfps 60
// automatically record a demo,
set cl_autorecord 1
// make a screenshot @ end of map
set cl_endmapcmd "screenshot"
// and show FPS
set cl_drawfps 1

Use R1GL, the updated GL video driver:
set vid_ref "r1gl"
// r1ql renderer to keep desktop resolution on alt-tab
set vid_flip_on_switch 1
// r1gl to force screen. Note that you can adjust this to take advantage of widescreen monitors too.
//set vid_forcewidth "1280"
//set vid_forceheight "960"
// Configure HUDscale in R1Q2, handy for tired eyes at higher resolution
set gl_hudscale 1.5
// Configure Chatud in R1Q2, scr_chathud_x and scr_chathud_y to move position
// x and y in pixels!
set scr_chathud 1
set scr_chathud_lines 6

More R1GL options can be found here

Some problems/solutions:

Those used to NoCheat might want to try these settings as being closest to it in R1GL:
set cl_cmdcomplete 0 //0 = standard Q2 style, 1 = ProQuake style, 2 = R1Q2
set m_fixaccel 1 //replaces m_xp of NoCheat, also see m_directinput
set cl_async 0 //disable asynchronous fps

Mouse sensitivity issues, try playing with these settings:
set m_directinput "0"
set m_fixaccel "0"

One problem that we see with some people using the anticheat dll for the first time is a corrupted ref_gl.dll file. If you get kicked from the server with the message 'unknown-renderer', make a backup copy of your current file, and download a copy of the ref_gl.dll file and unzip to the quake2 directory, or get it from the 3.20 patch (google it, if you don't trust our dll, you won't trust our link to the 3.20 patch).

How to raise your FPS, first thing to try is vsync and finish:
set gl_finish 0
set gl_swapinterval 0
After that, you have to lose quality, lower your resolution or try adjusting these:
gl_round_down (higher = faster)
gl_picmip (higher = faster)

ATI card low FPS:
You may need to set gl_ext_pointparamters 0, before R1GL starts up. So either on command line or in autoexec.cfg.

Xania railtrail:
R1Q2 offers this 'feature'... but we disallow it. sorry.

Forgot to add that this was written by WORM. and me, with lots of text stolen from R1CH. It's posted both here and on Backshooters, in the hope that it will help convincing people to use it. I'm sure he'll make it a sticky.

And yes Alka, as you said in another thread: the idea is to merge other problems and tips into that post.

Should be as easy as launching the "R1Q2Updater.exe" from your Q2 folder.
I had to do the same just yesterday.

A new version of r1q2 has been released that should fix some rare problems with connecting to the anticheat server, and some updates to the anticheat system itself. Unfortunately you may need to run the R1Q2updater for this update.

You click on gamespy upper left.  Then click Games and filters.  Scroll down to Quake2.  Under Command line  put in   r1q2.exe   and that should launch with  the r1q2 exe..

For the time being.. short answer.. Yes.
Long answer? You'd have to wait for a higher power to reply.  smiley
