Worm, ur synopsis of this thread was hilarious.....I read it this morning at work and people were asking what I was reading as I was laughing so much.? Great stuff man.? cheesy

I've skipped the rest of the thread so maybe you need to do another run-down in a few more pages.

EDIT:....read the rest of the thread during my lunch.....much as expected.? Peewee I have a job, I also a life, but I can still read the thread.? I'd definitely make the effort to read it if I'd been so vocal and offer a rebuttal to the comments made in response to mine, not just continually skip by them. I do admire your determination to deny their existence, even if it does make you look rather foolish.?

One or two comments/quotes made do scare me tho.

I have a 4.0 GPA after 6 years of university.  In high school we didn't do GPA's, we did %'s overall.  Mine was 98.8% (yes, I was top of my graduating class of about 300 students).

Why am I telling this?  Ahh crap.  Let the flaming commence.  rolleyes

BTW dill, Christianity teaches righteousness is attained through faith not works.

See, that's exactly what I expected; blind, unquestioning faith no matter if a person's actions are good, evil or indifferent.

I said earlier that I respect everyone's right to believe as they see fit but when it comes to fundamentalist inerrant faith I can only bite my lip and hold silent so long. Again, nothing personal, but I do have to make a few short comments regarding that statement, and I promise to keep this very short.

Isn't it rather self-righteous to state that 'faith' and not 'works' is the path to..to...whatever? From what I learned in studying various religions over my life the Jesus Christ of Christianity would heartedly disagree with that as that goes against everything he taught, "and by their deeds shall ye know them" and all that.

I find it most presumptuous that anyone would think an unethical person who professes to 'believe' and follows worship rituals is better off than an ethical person that follows another path. Let me take that a step farther, replace 'presumptuous' with 'arrogant.'

Gnostics consider 'knowledge' and 'action' to be important while 'belief' is fairly irrelevant. Hindus draw morality and ethics from 'karma' which is automatic and does not require a patriarchal God to create 'good' behaviour. Buddhists follow the brahmaviharas consisting of compassion, kindness, sympathy and a balanced mindfulness.

BTW2 I'm still maintaining a safe distance from this thread. I think I stopped reading halfway through page 6 but I'm not about to go back to find out.

Oh, I understand completely. Blind faith, arrogance and all that.? wink

Well if you arent going to accept others have opinions stop posting in the thread, you have no position or say in a discussion if you're not willing to read/listen to what others say.

THat's funny because when I explained why this was the case you ridiculed me... Hmm feet taste good

damnit why do i keep coming to this thread

OMG please stop telling me what my religion is if you're not even part of it. I'm qouating Romans. You'd know that if you asked. No that wasn't written by Jesus or even one of the 12 however the bible consists mostly of things written by people other than Jesus or the original 12.

Also "you'll know them by their actions" is a comment on christians about christians to christians. It has nothing to do with the path to righteousness. It's a literally worldy woute telling the deciples how to recognise eachother.

I mean have you ever been more ignorant in your life?

Once again I'm not reading past this point mostly because it IS personal no matter how much you say it isn't. Didn't you ever learn that if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it? Well this was one of those moments.

Anyway this is exactly why I'm trying not to come back to this thread. It get's me heated and argumentative when I'd rather stick with humor much like Amarris.

Having faith is an action, and your actions are judged in order to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.  That was Worm's entire point.  You have someone like Jim and Tammy Bakker that was using God's name for their own gain.  You all know this, and you all know there are many more out there who are just conning Christians out of their money.  That is why their actions will be judged when it is time to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.  What do you think the Ten Commandments were?  And just because I don't believe now, doesn't mean that I can't understand what Christianity is about.  I think you're doing the right thing by not getting involved in a conversation in which you do not agree.  No point in you getting all riled up.

Having faith is an action, and your actions are judged in order to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

I think that this is roughly the most ignorant and wrong statement on the entire thread let alone board.

You have a worldy understanding of Christianity based on other peoples actions and probobly the movies Bruce Almighty and What Dreams May Come. No matter where you based your opinions it is in fact very ignorant and juvenile to think that you know so much about a religion you don't practice.

I'm going to address this once but remember I'm tired of people who have no desire to even learn about Christianity before telling me how to practice it.

The very point of the law is to prove that you can't follow it. There is no salvation through a law because "all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God". Yes we will be judged and our actions condemn us but the very purpose of Jesus life, death and resurection is that although actions can condemn us there are no actions that can save us. Faith is not an action it is a belief system. Acts of faith can be performed, not the least of which being baptism. (No I don't believe in speaking in tounges or evangalists healing people) Acts of faith also do not save you yet they do demonstrate faith. If you truely believe that you can be saved through being a good person then go for it. More power to you. However being a good person is not enough, the only thing costly enough to ransom yourself from sin is the blood of the first born and unblemished lamb. Heck you'll find that King David, the author of Psalms, describing "The sacrifice of the lord is a broken and contrite heart."

Christianity in a nutshell is this: We're all sinners lost form the original "image" we were created in no one better than the other whether Jew or Gentile. God alone can judge you and Jesus alone can save you.

Now find me a denomination or single christian that disagree's with that. (I'm thinking the Jehova's whitnesses will mostly agree but vary the thought a little)

**EDIT**
Also YF you have pretty much summed up my entire point on this thread. +applaud

***EDIT***
One more thing since I finally read W0rms full post.
Looking to the Gnostics to help understand christianity is worse than qouting Stalin to help understand any religion.

Everyone please go immediatly look up information on the Gnostics so that you can know exactly who W0rm is refering to in a conversation about faith in Jesus.
