a few people said i should refrain what i have said. i don't think that's the case. my usage of HEH was indeed not an acronym in any way. the intention was clear that i simply do not believe this to be a true situation until there is some proof of it actually occuring. giving the community that we are left with it is very obvious as to why i would not believe too much of what is said, but, after saying that if this indeed is a true situation and indeed shelly has left us then i am very sorry to hear that. my condolenses do go out to her family and friends. a life lost is a terrible thing and i was not trying to be heartless in my post.

You know... you never realize how much you care about people until they die on you. I started quaking with that girl since the game came out, we played together on every server for years, started bullshit clans, and were even (as gay as this sounds) pen pals as kids, but over time our friendship turned bitter. I wish I had an extra day to say goodbye and patch things up. I guess all I can say now is I hope she's in a better place, she deserved better.

I was one of the last people to talk with Shelly.  Believe me when I say...she is gone.  I talked with her mother on Sunday, right before Shelly passed away...and later that day when she was gone...I've never heard more pain in a mother's voice than I did yesterday.  I also talked with .Blade. who flew down there the day she passed.

It really is the truth that you never know what someone means to you until all of the sudden...there's not there anymore...and never will be again.  You never think, you know a person for 5 years and watch them grow and change, and all the sudden they're ripped away long before they deserved to go.  Dead at 19?  How is that fair?

Shelly was a friend to me when no one else was, and would always make me feel better about everything...even when I was suicidal at one point, no one else would listen, but she did.  I'll never forget the great times we had, the hours of playing 1v1s at 3-7 a.m., the way her gameplay movements would cause epileptic episodes in some, the crazy webcam antics , just everything...

There's too many good things to remember from her...and that's how she should be remembered...not the way she died...but the way she lived...and man did she...

It is true i shouldnt have used the term elite is it so large a generalization it's just what I noticed the most. When i heard the news i felt this anger build within me, and heard all the irresponsible things that have been said to her.  From my perspective seing her entire path and being involved with people 7 years ago who genuinely tried to help by calling her and trying to  help her but there is just so much you can do.  There was so many warning signs so obvious, yet we were helpless and little flower went her way.

I remember that she and alot of us old-timers started about the same time.  She kicked my ass around and made hi-scores when I wasn't able to even come close of doing so.  I always admired her playing style, and when I found out that she really was a girl, I was even more impressed.  If she didn't take so much drugs, perhaps she could have even been the best among us.  A shame we'll never know.  A shame she'll never know how many fellow quakers really respected her either.

heh...she was online a lot the week before her death.  I just feel so happy to have talked with her and heard in her voice how happy she was the day she died.  I hope she died knowing people actually did respect and care for her, and loved her, and only wanted the best for her.

She always told me how she wouldn't be around forever, but I always tried to tell her there was more out there in life for her, all she had to do was have a little faith...and believe it or not, I think she was getting some faith.  It was simply her addictions she had mounted for so many years that she just couldn't get away from...it was those addictions that killed killed what could've been someone incredible.

I'm not blaming the drugs, for there is another person whom I won't mention who's truly the cause of Shelly's death, but really drugs are the symptom of a lot bigger problem, and she had to take so many drugs to get away from that problem, in her own mind she couldn't escape that problem without drugging herself into oblivion.

I'm still pretty saddened...well heh...extremely saddened by this...but the main thing I can hope for is that maybe...just maybe...she's finally found that happiness she was looking so long for.  Maybe since she couldn't find it in the physical realm...she can find it in the spiritual.  That's all any of us can hope for I think...is that she can finally be happy and find peace.

None of you probably know me at all and those of you who do, only know of me through Michelle.  I had been dating for the last few months and things had been kinda rough with us before her death.  The night she OD'd I was supposed to have gone over to her house as we were trying to work things out, but I ended up not going because her dad came by that night for dinner.  I know I shouldn't, but I blame myself, thinking that things would be different if I'd just come by for an hour or so.  Or if I'd just tried to call her one more time maybe she'd have stayed home.

I don't even know why I'm saying anything here.  None of you know me.  None of you give two shits about me.  But I know she cared about her quake family, some of whom damn near watched her grow up.  I wish I'd had more time with her.  I wish I'd been able to help.  I wish for so many things, but mostly I wish I could see her smile again and hear her voice.

I went thru a similar thing twice b4 where friends have died and I blamed myself for not trying harder, being there, doing more to prevent their deaths, but that's hindsight, and it can play cruel tricks on the mind.? ?If you'd known, you would have done something to help, but no one really expected this terrible thing to happen.? It's a tragic accident.

Don't be hard on yourself, I know that's easy to say and even harder to do, but for your own sake, you have to try.? YF - From my understanding from what crow has told me (since he has spoken to her mom recently) that there will be no obituary until her autopsy is complete, and that is still in process last I heard.  I would expect to see the obituary sometime this week.

Furthermore, blade actually flew down to Florida.

I'm 100% sure it's true.  She hasn't come on MSN or AIM since the day she died, so again I would assume that she has departed.

I would expect some people to fake a death, but this is not something characteristic of shelly.

I first chatted with her in 2000, she was only one of the handful of people I've ever chatted with outside Quake2.

This is the first time I've known someone in Quake2 who has passed away, it's insane.
Though playing Quake2 is great, there's a downside. This is the kind of thing that happens when you play a game for so damn long, everybody inevitably gets closer.

Well me and shelly use to be really cool until we clashed on personal issues, after that i always picked on her everytime she came in the server. I didn't hate her but after awhile i just didnt like her, but when i heard the news chills went up my spine and i was very saddened even if i hated someone i would never wish death no them, she was way too young to have gone, its very tragic. And now I wish i would atleast have said somthing nice to her before she passed.

I've been debating on what to say here for some time, trying to type at work while keeping my eyes dry in front of my coworkers. I saw this post a day or so ago and it still hasn't really sunk in. It's not often you're faced with a situation like this in which you know someone so far away in such a close personal way, and even rarer when those relationships end prematurely or tragically as in this case. I know Mitchell, as I always called her, had tons of fans in the Q2 world and could shit talk with the best of them. I loved her energy in the game and hated her depression at other times. Yes, she had issues, and some close calls, but I never really believed this could happen.

I've known Mitchell since she played at Lasermine years ago, 99-00 era. She always called me Shaggy and everytime she did it made me smile. It seemed to me like there was always something else coming up in her life to drag her back down, and each time she took a step up and out something would block her way. I always felt sympathy for her and hoped she would someday have the opportunity to live her life in the way she should be allowed to. I didn't know her as well as some of you but we did spend hours upon hours chatting for years and I feel that I've lost another great friend, one that could always be counted on for a laugh in Q2.

There won't be any obituary untill after the autopsy is completed.  That should have happened sometime on Wednesday, the 11th.  Atleast that's the understanding I had.  So it'll maybe be available Thursday.  Maybe.  The police officer I talked to today gave me a whole lotta indeffinate answers.

       I only knew Shelly through quake2/ctf. It's funny how so many songs start to make sense when you actually lose someone you care about.  It just doesn't make any sense...why would you do something like that, something where you would die...and why couldn't I do anything to stop it?  I almost encouraged it through my own senseless constant drinking and drugging...plus the fact that she called me the night she died and I didn't pick up is kinda funny...I thought for sure if I called her back later that night and the next morning she would pick up...but she never did...

This goes to show how precious human life is. Also doing drug's does not fix the bad things that went wrong in your life. Shelly will be missed, I did not know her at all really except for the few times she came on vent with us. But she seemed to be a nice person and wouldn't hurt a fly. Shelly I hope you found peace from your anguish, and now you can rest and be free from it. You will be missed.

She used to come on vent when she knew noone else was on so we could hang out without people making fun of her and I thought she was a really sweet girl. I missed this whole thread until now. I can't type worth a poo so I am no good at chatting but I do remember her as a class act and a fun/very welcome/talented player to see online. My kids are 19, 22 and 24 so I can relate to her age.
 I feel like Duce77 derived the best from her death in this thread - tell the ones you love that you do love them and say kind words to those you meet.
 I am in a business where I see and process alot of peoples' passings of all ages and I can tell you that life you are leading right now is not a rehersal.  I saw an interview once with a number of very old folks and they were asked what they regretted most in life - the answer was predominatedly not telling people more how much they loved them and how much thye meant to them before they passed away.
  Shelly, you were obviously loved and we all hope you felt that way in your too short life.

I haven't posted here for a long time and for various reasons and I'm back and felt despite being quite late, I figured I'd post to Shelly's thread and agree with Yowza in the process.

I remember the many times I made Shelly laugh with my inane comments. One time when I was being harangued by another player she said "I like ASSES, he makes me laugh" It's things like that that keep me playing this game. I remember she used to say things like "unf" and "asdflkjl" and "oh" when someone railed her. Funny shit.

Sad that this had to happen. I know it's late but RIP.

I remember when she called me one night ... She was really stone and depressed. I did my best to help her through that. I remember that when we hung up she was feeling better, and that also made ME feel better, not because i had managed to do something nice, but just because I could hear some kind of shy happiness in her voice. She was a nice girl, even though sometimes she was a bit mean.
I tried to help her. I really did.. I don't think there was nothing any of us could do
poor girl...
I wasn't always nice to her either, but in all honesty i did hope she would stop doing so many drugs. I will sure miss her.

Hey guys, I'm not a Quake player or anything (more like a CS:S guy myself) but I did know Shelly. I went to Middle School with her, used to get hugs from her every day because she was a sweetheart and when I was a Senior in High School I found her on Myspace but didn't recognize her, we hung out though and what sort of ended up being a one-night stand type ordeal (even though I saw her a few times after) she left a big impression on me with the whole drug usage thing, because I myself witnessed it and also with her sisters. I had to stick around to hear about the family problems and even found myself sneaking out of the house to avoid her crazy dad one time after I stayed the night. What pains me is I had the chance to possibly get her off of that stuff but I just sat there quietly and watched, I've never touched any type of drugs and seeing what it does to someone in front of me is probably one of the big reasons that kept me off of it. I knew she played Quake because she played it a lot when I was hanging out over there so I actually found this forum in a google search awhile back and learned she died. She got rid of her Myspace a long time ago and we stopped talking because she thought I was trying to be a 'player' and flirt with her sister and her last memory of me is probably driving me home pissed at me. (Didn't have a car back then, I was only 16-17 and she was 18.) I learned a lot from her and she was a very intelligent person but the whole area she lived in didn't help, nor the whole family situation. After reading this about a year ago I took a drive down by her house to see if it was true but couldn't find the nerve to knock on the door. I don't know how happy I would be to find out this information is false and I can't find the obitaury myself in Florida Today.. but I'll take you guys' word for it. I'm engaged now to a wonderful girl but for some odd reason I still think about Shelly a lot, because I've never really had anyone I was romantically linked to in the past die on me, just a really painful feeling. Sorry for such a long post, just wanted to leave my mark.. I appreciate all the nice things you guys have said and done for her.

I do remember you GWG, but I never knew you were Shelly's sister.  I don't know much about your sister, other than the 7 years of playing Quake 2 together.  She was very talented and a hoot to speak with.  Close your eyes, and look back at yourself when you were younger.  Smell, feel, and touch the images inside your head.  Play a song, find a picture, or go to a place that your sister liked and relive the moments of when it took place.  Most of all, live well.  Your sister would have wanted that for you.

I really miss Shelly as well...  I knew her from when she was in GWG back in the lasermine days, and was in several clans with her early on in quake2's life.  You could always count on her for a good laugh, that's for sure.  She would always be willing to talk to you if you needed someone to talk to.

A great person, a great girl, and I'm sure a great sister.

sigh.. every time I see a picture of her, there's such a flood of sickly intoxicating emotions that occur.. sometimes I wonder why I decided to care so much about someone so destined for a dead future.. or maybe she chose me to let me see how good my life really is.. or maybe she was too screwed up all the time to really know what she was doing with anyone.. and why she couldn't really make anything happen..

I'm so glad it's all over.. the scary thing would be if she was still alive right now.. how much more screwed up would she be?  and how much more screwed up would I be from being in continual contact with her?  as sad as it is.. and I miss her near every day still.. she died to teach me a lesson.. and as her cryptic "you'll pay" message was on my phone just a couple hours before she passed over 2 1/2 yrs ago.. she meant that I'll pay no matter what I tried to do concerning her, that you can only save yourself and people who want to be helped, that I would pay for knowing her til her end and taking her spirit inside myself.. the scariest love-hate-love trance I'd ever experienced.. but taught me the most.

I thank her for everything she showed me.  It let me know about myself.  I just wish she wouldn't have done so many drugs.. the ones that suffer the most are the ones that live.. she took the easier route out.. for that I wish she hadn't.. I wish she would've stuck it out and laid off the drugs at least some.. then again, I could never understand what she went thru, her and her family and friends and people she had to deal with constantly..

All I know is I miss her.. and thank her.. no one else could've shown me what she did.. I thank her for everything.

Hmm, well, I know this is an old thread but...

I was Shelly's friend back in high school. Just the other day, I wondered what she was up to and I came across this thread.

We did have a falling out, but I never had a hatred for her. To be honest, I always kind of felt like she would die at a young age, but I did not imagine this young. She was manic depressive and was into the drugs. I felt sorry for her. I know her home life wasn't the greatest, but I hated to see her choose the lifestyle that she chose. She definitely had some issues and that caused her some ill feelings with several people, but we all have issues and I am saddened that I was right about her not living very long. I was really hoping that someday she would straighten up, or that the drugs were just an "experimental" stage.

She is no longer in anymore pain so, I guess she finally got her release that she was looking for. It is just sad all around that such a young person had to succumb to drugs and depression.
