I would suggest that you guys use his client too. And this is r1ch's, not iENO. Not to take anything from him, I talked to him a bit ago and he has dropped q2admin updates and NCServer now that r1ch is doing a good job with his exe. Looks like NoCheat is going nowhere too. iENO and r1ch are both involved in another project for the Q2 community, we'll just have to wait and see how it pans out.

I'm still running q2admin just for a couple of logs it gives me.

Good! But as you know, you'll have to enforce client authentication if you want security; just running the server side portion won't protect against proxy cheats.

Sorry about the "full disclosure". Feel free to delete my posts if they offend. But I'm betting you want the truth to get out there. People should know what's going on so they may feel more inclined to cooperate with the client side security you will invariably have to enforce in the future.

I think we do a fair job for a 7 year old game, (yep, November 1997 was when it came out), that has a ever-shrinking community and is no longer supported. Of course, we could tighten up and require client authentication along with a bundle of other hinderances, but as a public server we are just in it for the fun of the game.

We are a public server and depend on you all to police the server yourselves, that's why you see a minimum of admin interference and why I put up this forum so you could all give your input as to settings, maps, etc.

If someone wants to bot there is usually a way, given time and effort, to accomplish it. We will continue to keep the server updated as best we can and if evidence convinces us of bot/cheat use, we will take appropriate action. Eveybody just chill and enjoy the game, cheating is no challenge  

Oh...if you have such knowledge of sure-fire ways to stop any cheats, by all mean, e-mail me

There is nothing on the demo that shows you ALLOWED me to get those caps. You were trying your hardest to beat me, and it didn't work, admit it.
If you actually had 6 - 0'd me, I would have probably quit Q2 forever in embarassment, but we both know that will never happen... especially not with YOU as my opponent.
If you were supposedly so "in control" of the situation, then why didn't you holdup when I asked you to? Were you afraid that I would finish you off? We both know that was the next step.
So quit your bragging... you did nothing.
PS: An official match would not have taken place on a public server, also there would have been more spectators to ensure fair results.

once again you are a moron... spectators?? there was elect admin so no one was joining unless the server admin, who i know, were to come, and let people join.. so you're just bieng a retard.. as i have said before, and i will say it again, i let you cap so i could hear your baby whining and excuses, if you want to play again on that map or ANY map i would gladly be able to 6-0 you anytime, anywhere..

Well I just watched the demo, and a few comments:

It is clear that h0ps is speedbotting. The choppy quality of his movements, and the relative slowness of his opponent, is reminiscent of the speedbotters that were common a couple years ago, before nocheats chased most of them away. I suspect he might be using a modified form of FRKQ2 or another client-side proxy.

That being said, I did think h0ps might have been slightly better as a player. But 1v1 dm on a ctf map, as other have pointed out, is meaningless. And what ctf player really cares who is the best deathmatcher? It is the best team player who I value the most.

For those who think cheating is impossible on the latest version of q2admin, you are living in a crack dream Several players actively cheat on worm's server. But as none of them is particularly flagrant, I really don't mind. I can handle a 10-20% timescale cheat, or the occasional aimbot, as long as there enough good players (or speedbotters) on each side to balance out.

Those of you interesting in learning more about security on q2 servers can PM me. Suffice to say that at this time it is wide open to cheating.

man it sure does make my day when someone thinks i cheat.. again with what proof are going off of, your memory of what a speedhack used to look like?? if you want to let worm, or any other trusted admin take a look at ALL of my files feel free, just set up a time, and a day and let me know and we can do it... the choppy quality of my movement is becuase my computer sucks ass, its like 3 years old...Do you not realize how long this game has been out, face it, some people are just GOOD, and even more so, BETTER than others...and why do you say i speedhack in the first place, i go just as fast as any other player with a clue goes.. ksoul, he's fast, does he speed hack?? naveed, he's fast, does he speed hack??? even people like crow, or wake, they're fast, do they speed hack??.. God, its getting annoying that no one can be good anymore without getting called a cheater, its ridiculous..

Not sure how bad your memory is, but the match took place at ACME. And like I said before, there is absolutely no evidence that you ALLOWED me to cap. It is utter nonsense, and you know it.
When you say "some people are just GOOD", I assume you're not referring to yourself. Unless of course you are completely delusional.
Rematch? I bet you're used to getting humiliated in public, so it's not a big deal to you.

I wish we could set up a lan or something because i'll gladly 1v1 everyone that wants to. but for me to go 1v1 and then lose because someone else cheated to win, that's not fair.

some guy came on the server the other week, i forgot exactly what he said, a damn good player btw, but it was along the lines of he has easily gotten a bot on before or that people still do it, he was speccing one. another damn good player, i'm not gonna name names, told me before he cheated in the past, c'mon now, if any little hacker really wants to get past a defense system, he can, i mean ACME isn't exactly the Pentagon's database. and like worm said, this is a 7 yr old game.

If any of you CTFers knew about the old SLY, I used to 1v1 at the drop of a challenge especially in RA2, but now that I look back at it, i got hacked alot because I didn't know what I know now then, and it wouldn't make any sense to lose to someone who cheats and have them brag about it.

come to think of it, I used to 1v1 for fun too, who the fuck cares who lost or won? but assholes on the server have taken it too far and seriously and raised the stakes so damn high, fuck that.

and yellowfire is just delusional, i wonder why anyone pays attention to him.

let's just keep this a fun game, and stop taking things personally or stop trying to get personal with other players.
